Book 3 in the Mythical Knights Series
What girl wouldn’t want a hot fire fighter’s help with a flat tire?
Denise Matthews.
Sure, Chase piques her interest in hot and steamy ways, but Denise doesn’t have time for a dating drama. Men always want her undivided attention, and Denise doesn’t have time for that nonsense
Chase Drigan doesn’t want a casual fling with Denise. His wolfly beast roars to life around her in a way he’s never fathomed before.
One date is derailed when a stranger approaches Denise, giving her a magical curse that might just save the world.
Or destroy it.
Chase and Denise’s lives are shoved forever off course, close to danger, closer together, as centuries old mysteries come to light as well as the dark entities who want it at any price.
Chase’s beast is ready to protect her, but Denise has to be willing to believe that there’s more to the world than humans, and walk through fire to save the man—the beast—she’s come to love.

9 days before everything changed
“Go out with me.”
“No.”
“I changed your tire.”
“So now I owe you?”
“Well, you did get to look at my ass for half an hour.”
“I get to see your ass anytime I want.”
“So you check out my ass?”
“Yeah. So?”
Chase Drigan gave Denise Matthews a pouting look. “You really won’t go out with me.”
Denise raised her eyebrow at the young firefighter as the bitter winter wind whipped around them in the YMCA parking lot. She brushed a strand of hair out of her face, unable to fathom that this was happening.
He was so… so… young.
“Look, Chase. You’re cute. And hot. I’m pretty sure there are a whole lot of girls your age who’d love to go on a date with you.” She glanced over her shoulder.
To illustrate the point, near the front door of the YMCA was a gaggle of twenty-somethings, furtively watching the exchange between her and Chase. They made yoga pants and tank tops look way better than she ever would. Denise turned back to the attractive fireman. If he even registered the girls watching from the entrance, he didn’t show it.
“I’m not asking them,” Chase said. “I’m asking you.”
Denise sighed. “You flatter me boy, but I’m just not interested.” Which was the problem with a lot of things lately for Denise. She wasn’t interested in anything anymore.
Not her work.
Not writing her books.
Not staring at the firefighters when they came to the YMCA.
While she was pretty sure she was too young to be going through the change of life, she knew something wasn’t right. Unfortunately, she didn’t have to be a genius to figure out what it was.
Her old nemesis, depression, was fighting for attention. The cyclic return could almost be scheduled on a calendar. But this time, she’d decided to try and cut it off before it got too bad.
Her plan included a re-dedication to gym-time to get her endorphins pumping, and possibly keep the darkness at bay.
And occasionally talking to handsome young men, if the mood struck her.
Today she was not in the mood. Of course, flat tires when she had a million other things to do only added to the stress.
The desire to go home, curl up in a ball, and hide from everything and everyone was beginning to take over.
But she wasn’t going to let it happen. Fortunately, Denise knew she had a job. A couple of them actually, and she had to stay on top of them.
Her practical nature was usually her strongest combatant against her depression. The little nag in the back of her head always kept her in check, and was jumping up and down right now.
No matter how horrible she felt, she still had stuff to do and she wasn’t getting out of it because she felt depressed. A regular problem she encountered, dealing with it. Some days she fought with everything she had. Some days, she was fine. And every so often, one thing, like a tire, could tip her over the edge.
And boom…
Meltdown.
If Chase hadn’t come along and helped her…
A flat tire was not on the schedule, damn it.
Denise bit her lip because she wasn’t going to cry.
No, she wasn’t going to do it. She wasn’t going to break down over a goddamn flat tire. At least the hunky fireman had changed it.
She can take it somewhere to get it fixed.
Or make her brother do it. Bruce liked doing stuff like that for her.
That sounded like a plan.
Yeah. She’d call Bruce. If she could tear him away from his new wife Greta. Their happiness was nauseating, but he deserved it.
She walked over to her little Ford Focus’s driver side door and paused. She inhaled a breath, feeling the tears starting to well in her eyes, even though she’d just promised herself she wouldn’t cry.
She might have snorted.
“Denise, are you okay?” Chase asked, drawing her out of her head.
She made herself stand up straighter and turned to look at him. He’d taken a step closer to her.
“I’m fine. Just,” she waved her arm, “overwhelmed. I have a lot on my plate right now, and this isn’t something I scheduled.”
He smiled. “You schedule everything?”
She nodded. “I have to. Keeps me sorted.” And balanced, she thought to herself.
He reached out and touched her arm. “Are you…”
Denise was not a touchy person, granted--she usually shied away from physical contact, because, eww, people. She saw Chase’s hand coming, and in a flash prepared herself for the simple physical gesture.
In a moment, it would be over.
At least, it’s what should have happened. A brief second of contact, and then done. She was in no way prepared for the slam of energy she felt as soon as he touched her.
It was almost like she’d been electrocuted. In the best possible way.
The energy between them was palpable. She put her hand over his, and the power intensified.
What in the world is this?
Am I that hard up to get laid???
Denise met his gaze, and for a second his eyes widened. She guessed he felt it too. He must have because he didn’t move his hand away.
And she didn’t let go of his, either.
“Did you--” Denise was cut off by the squawk of his radio on his hip.
He pulled away, his attention shifting immediately to the radio. “I have to go,” he said as he twisted to the side. Whatever was being said, the words were fast, a litany of numbers and codes which made absolutely no sense to Denise.
But she’d seen a shift in him--almost instant. He went from being a flirty young man to a machine.
He walked away and didn’t look back.
Denise fanned herself, overwhelmed by the sensations. She hadn’t had a reaction like that to a boy in, well, she couldn’t remember exactly the last time she’d felt so strongly about anyone.
Not even the love-of-her-life Isaiah gave her that kind of vibe.
Of course, Isaiah was his own special sort of guy. She loved him to distraction--such distraction she didn’t see him for the lying, cheating man-whore he was.
Probably why she’d climbed aboard the Boys are stinky and not worth my time train.
But this young fireman…
There was something about him.
Except for the fact that he was way too young for her.

Really enjoyed reading. Loved all the twists and turns in this book. Also enjoyed the humor. Can't wait to read the next book in the series. Highly recommend reading.
Wow, Wow! Where do I even begin to describe how fricking fabulous this book was! Denise, a human had so many personalities. She cursed like a sailor and could sting you like a bee, the next minute be so vulnerable and fall into a depression. The first time she met Chase, a werewolf firefighter at the YMCA, he changed her tire for her. He asked her out and she said she didn't date boys. Snap! But he wore her down and they went out. While playing pool a man walks up to her, hugs her, walks out and she faints. They find out he put a mystical soul in her body. Now they have to find out what, why and how to get it out of her. Denise finds out there are mystical beings that share our world because now they are after her wanting the soul. There are so many twist and turns in this book. And at times Denise could be quite humorous. I'm ready for the next adventure with this crew because it's not over yet. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Denise Matthews doesn’t have time for dating drama and Chase Drigan doesn’t want a casual fling but their lives are shoved forever off course as dark entities drive them closer together and closer to danger in this enthralling paranormal romance.Chase’s beast is ready to protect her, but Denise has to be willing to believe that there’s more to the world than humans and the reader is transported into a world where Denise will have to be willing to walk through fire to save the man and the beast that she’s come to love. The chemistry sends heated flames to tempt Denise and Chase into giving in to the burning desires that flare between them but the relationship is one that teeters on the brink of disaster due to emotional issues and the dangers that are snatching Denise out of her controlled world and into Chase’s mythical world. The characters are strong, compelling and capture the reader’s attention right along with their hearts as the fast paced and smooth flowing plot enthralls readers with lots of suspense, excitement and romance.Pay close attention to the chills and the spine tingling suspense as the story progresses because not everything is as it seems and unexpected twists take everyone by surprise as Denise gets drawn more and more into Chase’s world and the danger escalates as centuries old mysteries come to light with enemies that are determined to take control of those mysteries. The intriguing events and some quirky personalities draw the readers in and ensure that there is never a dull moment in the well written story full of vivid details that bring it all to life. This fascinating world keeps getting better the more I visit it, there are so many interesting elements to the world that I can’t possibly get enough of it and with the twists and turns that Denise and Chase’s story brought to light, it sure looks like things are going to continue to be even more exciting, so I can’t wait for my next visit.
My Review:There is a LOT happening in this book. Chase is a fireman who is also a werewolf...can we say YUM! He's also about 10 years younger than Denise and she's not so comfortable with the idea of being a cougar, even if the guy is hotter than sin. She agrees to one date and then life gets crazy.Denise is an author/medical transcriptionist. Her life is pretty boring...she lives basically for her work deadlines and the hot fireman man-candy at the gym. Chase changed a flat tire for her one day and ever since then he's been having vivid nightmares about her being in danger...a sure sign that she's his mate. But she has no idea about any of this. She doesn't know mythicals are even a thing, although her brother had his own run-in with them last year (yes...Bruce from the fairy Godmothers series is her brother, but he never told Denise the truth of what happened to him then.) So Denise isn't prepared when a strange man comes and attacks her on her date, leaving her world flooding with mythicals...something she never knew existed before. Oh, and yeah, there's still the really hot werewolf attached to her hip trying to protect her.Denise is an interesting character. She has the mouth of a sailor and is pretty abrasive. Be ready for that. Once you get used to her, it can be really hilarious especially as her language starts to rub off on Chase. I liked Chase and how he doesn't let Denise's abrasiveness bother him. In fact, he thinks it's kind of hot that she's not shy at all.Like I mentioned before there is a lot going on here...it has to do with the Templars and one of their relics. But it's a relic that everyone is after...Denise is the key to it though...somehow that guy in the bar left her as the touchstone for it. But there are sheldevaks (I totally spelled that wrong, but from what I gather they are a little like shades), vampires, werewolves, knights, and fairies who all play into the story. The whole relic story line didn't end up making any sense to me with the way that ended with Denise...seriously, what was the point? I really didn't get it. I know that plays into the overarching series story line, but the little bit in this story just didn't work for me. I would discuss it deeper, but I don't want to post any spoilers. These books are always easy to read, even with the really complex world. I liked Denise and Chase and the way their two worlds came together. Honestly, I would have liked to have had more of them connecting in the story because they were fun, but there just wasn't enough page time between just the two of them.I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
